Weather in Saint Petersburg Florida, Tampabay
I know there are tons of weather sites for Saint Petersburg Florida. I guess that only shows that people want to know what the weather is here in St. Pete. I not good with degrees, neither Celsius nor Fahrenheit. I like to know what the weather feels like and what I have to wear. So, this Saint Petersburg Florida weather site is for all people that need more "practical" information and not just temperatures.
December, January, February and March
You better bring a sweater or two. It is winter in Florida and believe me, it can get cold. When you wake up in the morning and want to go for a walk on the beach, you will need a jacket or one of these big wrap around fashionable blankets. Around 10 am or so, the sun gets a little strong and before you know, it is T shirt time and by noon it is bathing suit time. Do not be fooled. By 5 pm the sun is not that friendly anymore and you should have the sweat shirt handy again. At night it can get really cold, that means big sweater and big jacket. Also, do not under estimate the wind we get here. All in all, I love the Florida winter, not much rain, no humidity, pretty blue skies, sunny during the day and at night you get a chance to wear your big cozy sweat shirt. This translates to a high temperature is 72 degress, a low temperature of 56 degrees, we have 2.8 inches of rain and the Gulf of Mexico is about 65 degrees. Yes, some people, the locals call them "snow birds" and of course all the Europeans go swimming in the Gulf of Mexico in the winter. It is funny how spoiled you get when you live in Florida. I came here 16 years ago on Jan 11th and the first thing I did was go for a swim in the Gulf. Well, I only did this for the first year, now you will not get me in the water till May when it has warmed up to about 80 degrees.
Also, every year I have to laugh, here I am in January in my winter coat and boots and drinking hot chocolate, watching the tourists on the beach in bathing suites, drinking cocktails and putting lotion on their sunburn. How exactly they mange to get a sunburn in January really beats me, but trust me, they do, I see it every year.
April, I love April. You never know what kind of weather you will have in April; it can be really nice or not so nice. It is a surprise every morning. You can feel that the winter is fighting with the summer, most people call this time of the years "spring" Anyway, I think it is save to say that it is nice and sunny and warm and t- shirt and bathing suite weather, but I strongly recommend you bring at least one sweater and one pair of long pants (just in case) The humidity is still very low and the skies are blue.
May, my favorite month, I love it; you just feel that the summer is around the corner. You might have to turn the Ac on and you might get your first sunburn. No rain or thunderstorms yet and you can pack away the sweaters till December. The Weather here in Florida in May is absolutely gorgeous. Everything starts to grow and to bloom and the grass comes this fresh vibrate green color again. The locals start going back to the beach and swimming in the Gulf again and you see a lot of boats and jet skis on the water.
The weather in June July August and September? Well what can I say? It is HOT
If it was socially and legally acceptable, you would not need any cloth. Doesn´t matter what you wear, even if it is a bathing suite, it is too much. Ac is on 24/7 and sometimes you wonder how many more degrees it takes to make the water in the Gulf of Mexico boil. No kidding, the Gulf feels like a huge bathtub and you will be looking for the switch to get the Jacuzzi bubbles going. I can only repeat this; it is hot from the moment you wake up in the morning till you wake up again in the morning. The temperature doesn´t even take a break during the night. So, now you think, wonderful easy packing my suitcase, I do not need a sweater. Boy, you are wrong, bring one anyway, our Florida restaurants and shops like it cold and it is no fun to freeze while you eat. No kidding, bring a light sweater and have it with you when you go for dinner, you WILL need it. You also might want to bring one of these little hand held fans that are battery operated and that spray a little mist of water. These things are too cool (n the true sense of the word) Last but not least SUN lotion. Please please please, do not spoil you vacation by getting a sunburn the very first day. And another good tip, if you do not like the "Zebra look" move your bathing suite. Not every hour but every few minutes, just move it a little, trust me once you have the "Zebra Look" you will not able to undo the damage.
You remember the song by Queen where it goes "Thunder ball and lightning, very very frightening me, Galileo, Galileo Figaro, I see a . . . . ok. You get the picture right? Florida in the summer also means thunderstorms in the late afternoon and some lightning. Do be "cool" guy that is no afraid of lightning. Just go to one of the beach bars, have a cocktail and watch the amazing cloud formations, the wind and rain storm from a safe place. It is awesome to see how the sky can turn pitch black in minutes, the clouds roll in and the weather changes without and warning. It never gets old. Still after all these years of living in the Saint Petersburg Tampa bay area, the weather here still fascinates me. Ok. Back to temperatures, in the summer month we see 90 degrees and up during the day and in the 80 degree range over night. High humidity (do not even try to put make up on) and short but furious rainstorms. Should you bring you umbrella? NO, forget it, by the time you find it and you have it up it either gets blow away by the wind on the rain shower is over and done with. I do not care where you come from and if you know it all or not, and this little piece of information might not belong on a Florida weather site, but I will say it anyway. DRINK lots of water. Dehydration is just no fun and you do not want to ruin your vacation by being tired and worn out all the time. In real Estate the 3 magic words are Location, location, location, visiting Florida in the summer time, your 3 magic words would be Water, Water, Water.
OK. Let´s move to Oct. and Nov. with the October being my second favorite month of the year. No rain, no humidity, no AC, just wonderful sunny bright blue shies and temperature between 75 and 85 during the day and in the 60 degree range during the night. You do not freeze, you do not sweat, it is just picture perfect. All the outdoor activities, events and festivals start again. You can go to the Saturday morning market downtown Saint Petersburg or to the Vinoy Park for the Ribfest or the art and crafts shows in Treasure Island and St. Pete Beach or Gulfport, the seafood festival in Madeira beach, stroll along John´s Pass, Play a round of Golf on our numerous Tampabay Golf courses, spend hours fishing the Intracoastal waterways or spend time in Fort De Soto Park just south of Tierra Verde. The Oct. Nov weather here in Florida is wonderful and you will enjoy this time of the year.
